soul’s deepest intent

“Possibly your soul’s deepest intent is not happiness; it may rather intend that you find your journey in defeat, in exile, in the valley of suffering.” (P13). I find this comforting somehow, as if this removes our individual situation from the realm of success or failure. (Maybe in Buddhist language – an easing of clinging to those lokadhammas (worldly concerns) of pleasure/pain, loss/gain, praise/blame, fame and ill repute.)
